The other day while out in the Blogosphere I came across more posts and articles about saturated fats and the great debate as to whether or not they are really bad for you as we have thought for the longest time.
This has to easily be the hottest topic in the health at the current moment and I would not be surprised to see this on the morning national news shows… if it hasn’t been there already.
Men’s Health magazine wrote a pretty good and extensive article about this very topic and brought up a lot of good research that helps to prove that saturated fats really are not linked to being bad of us.
Who really cares though… nothing comes close to proving they are good for us either.

I mean… yes we need saturated fats in our diets and it does come into our diets naturally through many of the meat and dairy products we eat. But all of these studies and all of these discussions seem to only prove that saturated fat may not be as bad as we thought… Does that mean it is good for us…No Are you going to run out now and start eating coconuts and steaks like nobodies business?… probably not.
Dr. Ronald Krauss, one of the doctors who have been involved in many extensive studies said that he is not ready to say that saturated fats are good for you and he isn’t ready either to say they are bad for you.
Two Interesting Topics
The two things that I found really interesting in all of the articles and posts I have read yesterday, is the fact that saturated fat regardless raises your total cholesterol. You cholesterol profile… the amount of HDL or LDL, though improved.
That is a good thing because the HDL keeps those arteries clean. I am still nervous about having my LDL get so high… Until further studies are done and something more convincing comes out I am going to stick with keeping Monounsaturated Fat high in my diet.
The other conclusion that was drawn from these studies was something that made me really happy… A doctor named Dr. Volek said that it isn’t the the bad food habits that give people heart disease, it is the bad habits. Overeating and lack of exercise cause the problems that people have.
Makes sense since we are such a sedentary society.
So who cares whether saturated fats are good, are bad, or whatever… If you want to be healthy and feel good… Exercise and even better…
Weight Train!!!!
What do you all think about all of this saturated fat talk?
