The loss of hearing occurs when the passage of sound waves to the brain is impaired, disrupted. It can be caused by ear wax build up, infection, trauma, changes in atmospheric pressure, bathing or swimming in contaminated water, loud noises, poor circulation, etc. Hearing loss is both gradual and sudden, and can many times be improved via proper diet, herbs, etc.
Sound waves enter the outer ear causing the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the bones of the middle ear and hair cells in the inner ear to vibrate, which are then picked up and transmitted to the brain via the auditory nerve. The brain interprets the vibrations.
The brain and ear’s ability to interpret, transmit physical and electrical (nerves) impulses is a function of blood. Blood carries nutrients and wastes to and from the cells, brain, bones, nerves, organs, etc. There are only two kinds of nutrients. Protein and fat build an fuel. Water, sugar, minerals, etc. reduce, cleanse, cool and moisten.
The correct combination of building and cleansing nutrients, foods builds and maintains the correct amount of structure and function, ears, brain, hearing, etc. Any amounts, greater or less, in the extreme, sicken, weaken and pain the body mind via too much or too little blood, structure and function.
Too little blood and or protein and fat, weaken, decrease all structure and function, including hearing. You need a certain amount of blood, protein and fat to hear, interpret, think, digest, circulate, etc. Low protein and low fat diets, in extreme, in addition to blood loss via menstruation, menopause, hemorrhage, etc. tends to decrease blood, structure, function.
Too much protein and fat, can also reduce blood supply to the ears, brain, etc. Protein and fat (includes cholesterol) are thick, sticky nutrients. In excess, they tend to thicken, clog the blood, arteries, liver, heart, etc. reducing blood flow, especially to the extremities: head, arms and legs. reduced blood flow creates reduced function: hearing, vision, taste, mobility, etc.
The ears are connected to the lungs, nose via the nasal cavity and throat. Too many cooling, damp foods and or cold damp environment tends to adversely affect the ears, hearing.
The lungs lie directly above the digestive organs. Digestive energy heats the body. Excess heat rises into the lungs, heating and drying. Weak digestion reduces energy, excess heat causing the lungs to cool and dampen. Cold condenses producing excess fluids: water, mucous, phlegm. It is no different from an external invasion of cold air (winter, air conditioning), which also tends to cause, form mucous and phlegm in the lungs, throat, sinuses, nose and or ears.
Too many cooling, damp foods and drinks (milk, yogurt, ice cream, salads, raw foods, fruits, juices, smoothies, cold drinks, etc.), in excess, tend to weaken, dilute and cool digestive fire, acid and enzymes, which in turn, cools, weaken and dilutes, moistens the lungs, sinuses, nose, ears etc. with excess fluids.
Poor diet, low protein, low fat (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, nuts and seeds) and high carbohydrate, especially salads, raw vegetables, fruits specially tropical, juices, smoothies and cold drinks) in the extreme, tends to weaken, cool and dilute digestion, acid and enzymes, which in turn, weakens, cools and dilutes the lungs, nose, sinuses, ears, etc. Earaches, middle ear infections can also be caused by a cold, damp environment (winter, air conditioning, living in a cold, damp basement, etc.).
The best medicine for the lungs, nose, ears is proper diet:
Per meal, 2-3 times per day, preferably breakfast and lunch
1/3 protein and fat (red meat, eggs, chicken, cheese, beans, etc.)
1/3 grain (rice, noodles, bread, etc.)
1/3 Vegetables, cooked (3-5), fruit (1)
Spices (cumin, coriander fennel, turmeric, cayenne, ginger, etc.) soup and or tea.
Cooked foods, soups, stews, protein and fat warm the body, lungs, digestive organs etc. Spices increase digestion and dry dampness, excess fluids: mucous, phlegm,. loose stools, edema, cellulite, etc. Ginger and or cinnamon in cookies helps counter excess damp, mucous.
Most bacteria and viruses require a medium, fluid to grow. Excess, trapped water in the ear provides an excellent opportunity, medium for growth. It is why spicy herbs: garlic or peppermint oil drops in the ear are are used, as they not only fight infection but also dry dampness. This is also the same reason why ear cones, candles are used. Ear candles are placed in the ear and set on fire. As the cone, candle burns down, it absorbs water, dries the ear. There are different types of ear candles. Ear candles with wax may drip excess wax into the ears.
Reduce milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, salads, tropical fruits, smoothies, shakes and cold drinks. Milk and cereal is not a good idea. The incorrect
There are three categories of hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss occurs when the ear canal is blocked (ear wax), infected, inflamed or damaged. Sensorineural hearing loss is generally caused by caused by damage to the inner ear and or nerves (acoustical) via birth, prescription medications, antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, viral infections, etc. It starts off as an inability to hear high pitch sounds before progressing to lower pitched sounds. Neural hearing loss is generally caused by brain tumor or stroke.
1/3 of all people over age 65 have hearing problems that are usually caused by reduced blood supply to ear, due to heart disease, diabetes or circulatory problems. Tinnitus occurs in the majority of people with hearing loss. It is a constant or recurring ring, buzzing that may be loud or soft. Loud generally indicates liver tension, high blood pressure arteriosclerosis, etc. Low pitch indicates weakness, deficiency, low blood pressure, etc.
The following are symptoms of hearing deficit in infants, children: failure to blink or react to loud noises, sleeps through loud noises, failure to turn head toward familiar sounds, mono-tonal babbling, failure to speak clearly by age two, no interest in word games or being read to, habitual yelling or screaming when communicating, playing and or shyness, withdrawal.
Middle ear infections are common in children. Children tend to be weak, cold as they are still developing. This weakness, lack of energy, heat makes them susceptible to the negative affects of excess cold and damp. A normal healthy body generates a certain a amount of heat, energy. 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit is normal body temperature , energy production. Any temperature above or below, in excess, tends to weaken, sicken and pain the body mind via too much or too little energy production.
Too little energy, heat tends to cause not only a drop in temperature, coldness, but also dampness, excess moisture. Cold condenses. The cold temperatures of winter turn, condense cold air into water into rain into snow into ice. In the body, cold temperature create excess mucous and phlegm in the lungs, sinuses, nose and throat, which can the travel to and infect, congest the ear.
Whatever the cause, proper diet never hurts.
