Exploring the Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

The very first step in dealing with bipolar disorder and those that have it is to get a good understanding of the symptoms. There are four different type of mood episodes, each with their own unique symptoms.

Mania

* Person feels all-powerful. May have hallucinations or delusions of grandeur.
* Euphoria - feels excessively optimistic, on top of the world.
* Extremely irritable - angry with aggressive or provocative actions.
* Restless - unable to concentrate, easily distracted.
* Unusually talkative - talks fast, feels a need to keep talking.
* Less need for sleep - goes for days on very little or no sleep.
* High risk behavior - pleasure seeking, involvement in high risk actions like sex, drugs, gambling, etc.
* Extremely energetic - feelings of creativity and increased productiveness.
* Aggressive behavior - rudeness, causes trouble.
* Poor judgment - reckless, impulsive, no idea of abnormal behavior.

Hypomania

* Milder form of mania - less severe, not as difficult to function normally.
* Euphoria - feels productive and energetic.
* Can do day-t0-day activities - no delusions or hallucinations.
* Very agreeable - may seem to be in an usually good mood.
* Often turns spirals into a full-blown manic episode, followed by major depression.

Depression

* Fatigue - loss of energy, may move and speak slowly.
* Depressed - hopeless, sad, feels empty.
* Loses interest in previous pleasurable activities - sex, hobbies, social activities.
* Restless - unable to sit still, nervousness.
* Change in sleep pattern - oversleeps or has insomnia.
* Weight and appetite changes - may have significant weight gain or loss.
* Problems with memory - can’t concentrate, difficulty making decisions.
* Feelings of worthlessness - very critical and hard on themself, dislikes self.

Mixed Episodes (Mania and Depression)

* Full blown symptoms of both mania and depression.
* May alternate between the two extremes or suffer affects of both at the same time.
* Mixes irritability and the low moods of depression with the agitation of mania.
* Combination of high energy mixed with depression make suicide a high risk.

Use the natural healing powers of life to help over come depression and other daily stress that comes with everyday life. Use your own powers of life to help find happiness and change the levels of stress in daily life. There are so many ways to take the mind off of problems that bring daily stress to some ones life. Stress will raise the blood pressure and make a person sweat more then normal Stress can make a person feel sick or get a headache.. Stress not only affects a person mentally as well as the physical pain that can be cause by constant feeling of stress.

There is daily stress that affects people daily so that they are tense all the time this will put more pressure on daily life. Take the time and use some of life`s basic tools to make yourself let go of some of the daily stress. Listening to music will help relax the causes of daily stress. Turn on some radio station you like and sit back and listen to some of your favorite music. Try to either sing or keep time with the beat to the music this will relax the muscles and lower the blood pressure to help make the stress easier to cope with. Try dancing to the beat of the music even alone the body`s muscles and blood pressure will lower.

Try to laugh as much as possible when worked up from stress this will help release the stress built up in the body cause by to much daily pressure. Try just laughing at any think that is funny and stress will relax and it will be easier to deal with what ever caused the stress. Some times it is the simplest of things that will relieve the daily stress that life will bring. Most stress is cause by the build up of tension in the stomach muscles so try some deep breaths and release them several time this will relax the muscles.

Take a walk to the park and just sit on a swing and let the tension go out of the body. By sitting on a swing the body hangs loose and lets all the tight muscles relax this will relieve alot of the stress Close your eyes and just listen to the sounds of birds and life going on around you this will also help to relax the body and lower the blood pressure. Listen the children laughing and having fun this should relax you and bring a smile to your face. Just lay on the ground and look at the sky see the true beauty that is all around this will also help you to relax. take time to smell the flowers around this will help get the mind on other thoughts. Certain smells will also help relax the body.

Take a nice long and slow walk this will let the body relax and clear the head by taking slow easy deep breaths as you are walking. Have a warm and then cold shower this will also help relax the body and lower the blood pressure. Go home away from the pressure and just sit back and watch shows that you find funny and let the worries of the day wait until tomorrow.

Take a walk along the beach without your shoes on and just let the cool sand rub between the toes this will not only feel good it will also relax the entire body. Just lay on the beach and listen the the waves of the water tides coming in and out this will also relax the body. Sometimes it as simple as taking some time to be alone and just skip stones across the water.

Try thinking about the good times that you had on some date or party you were at this helps changes thoughts to happier ones and will help relax the body. Pamper your self to something you would not normally eat just to break the daily trend that you have set for your self. Do not over eat just enjoy some food that has been taken out of your daily life.

Life will bring stress these are just some ideas that I have found will help release the stress caused by daily life. These are all things to take the time to enjoy in daily life anyway. This will you to relax and just enjoy the beauty and sounds and great smells of flowers that are part of daily life. Look around and see the true healing powers of beauty sound and smells that are all around for people to use. I hope this will help these are some of the simplest ways to just forget and relax from the daily grind of daily life.

There are several ways that you can try to train your brain to make you smarter and a quicker thinker.

1. Move!

What is the best thing to do to train our brain? Playing chess? Completing some math cases? Oh no…not that. The best thing to do is to exercise! Aerobics is the best among the best ones. As you age, the cells in your brain (neurons) are lack of their connections called synapsis—a very important factor of your ability to think. And, the best way to avoid it is by exercising.

2. Nutrition

By consuming healthful meal, you can avoid yourself from hypertension, diabetes, or obesity which can cause memory intrusion.

3. Stress-Free

In a certain condition, a traumatic stress can affect your brain. Stress can interrupt your cognitive process such as learning and memorizing and as a result, it affects your quality of life as a human being. That’s why, try your best to avoid stress. Get relaxed, listen to the music or try yoga.

4. Enough Sleep

The sleeping brain, according to some theories, can help unify complex information. By taking enough night sleep, you can the next day create solutions to your problems a lot easier. Not only that, enough sleep can also help you avoid stress.

5. Stop Smoking

In some researches on the memory and cognitive functions, smokers get worse result than those who don’t. Plus, smoking can cause stroke and hypertension which can cause memory intrusion.

6. Socialize

Researches in Canada proved that lack of relationship with friends or family cause cognitive deterioration. Try to stimulate your brain by socializing. Meet as many people as you can. Especially when you age. Yet, do it as early as possible. Do you know that naturally brain is slowing down when you reach the age of 30?

Bipolar disorder patients can travel without any incidents. But the possibility of any manic incidents in between the travel must not be ruled out. The co-travelers and the authorities of the traveler must keep this in mind with serious concern. Even though such incidents in air travel are reported rare, If happens it will threaten the safety of co-passengers and cabin-crew. In some cases aircraft is forced to make emergency landing.

Why they become maniac during fly?

Bipolar disorder is caused by the drastic changes in mood. During air travel, there are more chances for a change in mood. Here is some of it.
· Traveling in the flight is not a routine thing for many people, especially bipolar disorder patients. This change in routine may upset them and it will result in mood disorder.
· Stress related to travel is common for even normal people. So if it happens to bipolar disorder patients the consequences will be more hazardous.
· Bipolar disorder patients usually are not much exposed to crowd due to their behavior patterns. So as they are getting a sudden exposure with the crowd in the airport and flight, they might get confused over how they are expected to behavior. This feeling will put them in panic and it may convert into a violent situation.

Risk factors

Bipolar disorder in manic state is marked by violent behavior beyond the patients’ control. They may involve loss of all contact with reality, hallucination, desolation, incoherent speech, agitation and sometimes violence. If this state happens for the patient on board of the flight, there are chances for the following
· They may try to open the door and windows during the flight in a bid to get out.
· Or they may shout demanding for emergency landing
· Sometimes they may get irritated for not landing and they may try to attack the cabin crew and co-passengers
· Some people in manic state refuse to get down after landing.

How to deal with it?

All psychiatric emergencies are different, and therefore no hard and fast rule for how to deal with it. Most flight attendants deal this situation based on the training they got and experiences they had. Here are some ways to deal with such situations.
· Talk to the patient and help to bring him back to reality.
· Seek the help of doctors on board, if any.
· Isolate the patient if the situation demands
· Remove objects that can cause injury, from the patients reach
