When you reduce your weight by taking a pill or following a diet, your weigh reduction might be only a temporary achievement.

To get permanent results, you have to grow as a person.

Remember that extra weight always has a reason. From we are borne someone puts something into our mouths when we are uneasy or cry, just to comfort and quieten us.

This is a strategy that works, and as time goes by, we very quickly adopt this strategy of filling our mouths with something when we are emotionally upset or uneasy. And it keeps working as efficiently as ever. It is like a pill that works all the time, whatever the emotional problem, just like when we were children.

But it has all the side effects of whatever narcotic you could care to mention. You get addicted, because the problem you ate away is not solved,- it is just packed down beneath a temporary surface layer of food bliss in our psyche, so that you don’t feel it any longer. But once the intoxication recedes, you feel the need to eat again, because now you feel uneasy again, and now you probably don’t even remember what the problem was all about,- you just feel uneasy. The problem is still there.

We are in a habit of not solving any problems on the personal level, and not learning anything about ourselves, and that makes us incapable, and liable to use the same dysfunctional strategy whatever problem arises in our lives. It is all on auto pilot, that is, a subconscious strategy.

And the body weight just keeps building. We don’t even know that we eat, just like a smoker discovers he has just had a smoke after it has turned into toxic gases. It was all on autopilot.

The strategy just doesn’t push the right button. If we need comfort, we should go and get some true and healing comfort from someone or something we care about or believe in, and from whom or whatever we feel ready to receive comfort.

If we need to reduce anxiety, what we actually need is not food or nutrition, but a calming influence of some sort on the emotional level. It could be a piece of music, a meditation, some exercise, some self help to build qualifications and skills, without which we feel insecure. -And so on and so forth. A slowing and steadying of breathing is necessary through a good and efficient strategy.

We need a lot of strategies to be able to meet different challenges in life, not just food. And food should be used for nutrition, and not for any and all types of other purposes.

So, what has yoga to do with all of this?

Well,- a whole lot, I can tell you.

Yoga is a system to increase your awareness, your inner strength and your personal integration through postures, movements, breath-cultivation et cetera. As you keep doing your exercises, what was previously experienced as problems might just evaporate, just like darkness fades when the sun rises.

The process is not to chase or to fight the darkness, but to bring in the light.

What was a problem while you lived in the dark, that is without full awareness, with a lower state of consciousness, are not at all a problem when you gradually turn on the light, or increase your awareness. It is just seen as a perfectly normal situation in life,- a situation with which you are at home. A rope on the floor is not a snake ready to attach you any longer,- it is just that,- a rope. No heart palpitations, no sweating, no autonomic reactions, and no need for food, nor pills nor medications, and no dysfunctional strategies of any kind.

To reduce weight through yoga is fast, efficient and permanent, and comes as a consequence of your own inner growth of awareness and consciousness, your own inner state of integration, which should always be the prime focus, whatever problem you want to solve. Improve the problem solver, and the problem might just redefine itself to some sort of normal phenomenon in life, and not an experience that calls for any distraction, autopilot strategy, subconscious strategy or anything else that could compromise your feeling of self worth and feeling of mastery in life.

Yoga is not designed to lose weight,- it is designed for perfect health, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

When you grow on all levels, and fat just evaporates from your body as a natural consequence, your weigh loss will be permanent, and you will finally be out of the jojo-experience of trying one diet or incomplete strategy for weigh loss after another.

You will then be free to fill your life with more meaningful pursuits that chasing a mirage of some future, slim body.

You will experience life without the perspective of gaining weight again, and staying healthy for the rest of your life.

You seek health on all levels, and you receive a slim and fit body in return, among a lot of other benefits.

If you seek just a slim body, you might get that, but you won’t necessarily get a healthy body. Some diets are very unhealthy, yet very effective for slimming your body. A deadly sick person also get slim, but that is a bi product of being deadly sick, not a result of a healthy strategy. A thin body should be a result of having a a healthy body, not a sick one, due to improper and faulty diet.

Getting your desired end result in terms of body weight as a bi product of your inner growth and your overall state of health is a far superior strategy to all the other strategies available today.

Did you know that obesity is now classified as a disease and that physicians are compelled by medical ethics to offer treatment for all diseases? Weight control experts believe that obesity carries medical risks so severe that for a physician to delay offering treatment would be a form of malpractice. What does your doctor say about your weight?

Not only will you reverse a multitude of disease risks if you lose weight, you will acquire a new sense of self-esteem and improved quality of life. Certainly, to be able to find and utilize the opportunity to achieve weight loss and the attendant benefits is your desire.

Obesity and Diseases

Excessive body fat is associated with increased risks of disease. For example, even a modest weight gain during adulthood brings an increased risk of diabetes among women. Excess weight has been named as the cause of up to half of all cases of hypertension, and thus increases the risk of stroke.

Often weight loss alone can normalize the blood pressure of an over weight person; some people who suffer from hypertension can tell you exactly at what weight their blood pressure begins to rise. Being over weight also triples a person’s risk of developing diabetes and all of its associated ills. If hypertension or diabetes runs in your family you urgently need to attend to controlling body over weight.

The unhealthy risks of over weight are so many that it has been declared a disease. Obesity, in addition to diabetes and hypertension predispose other health risks such as high blood lipids, Cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea (abnormal pauses in breathing during slept)

Other serious health conditions associated with Obesity are: Osteoarthritis, abdominal hernias, cancer, varicose veins, gout, gallbladder disease, arthritis, respiratory problems (including pickwickian syndrome, a breathing blockage linked with sudden death) liver malfunction, complications in pregnancy and surgery, flat feet, and even a high accident rate.

Moreover, after the effects of diagnosed disease are taken into account, the risk of death from other causes remains almost twice as high for people with lifelong obesity as for others.

Rate of weight loss

Successful long term weight control requires controlled low loss of body fat without cyclic “on-again off-again” dieting. Losing a pound a week helps maintain muscle while preferentially losing fat tissues.

Commit to exercising for life

Exercising for life helps keep the body engine revved up, so that more calories are burned by muscle and less insulin is required to dispose of elevated blood sugar following meals. Even a daily half-hour of vigorous walking will help maintain weight.

Commit to changing eating habit.

Your diet is the basis of your health. Eating right or wrong makes you either over weight or drives your over weight to obesity levels. Let your nutritionist or doctor guide you, so that you consume only the necessary calories and at the required intervals

BODY MASS INDEX

(BMI) is a standard for body weight based upon the measurements of height and weight. This is one of the most useful relationships; it can be used to asses health risks associated with overweight and it can be used as a therapeutic guide. There is a high degree of correlation between BMI and body fast. BMI is based upon surveys of lean adult between the age of 20 and 29 to calculate the index of fatness.

BMI = Weight(kg)/height(m)2

Take care of your weight before it becomes a source of serious health problems.

If you are looking for a way to successfully block carbohydrates in your diet then a good carb blocker may be of benefit to you. But just how does someone go about finding the best carb blocker? In this article I will look at some points that need to be considered in order to find the best carb blocker to help you reduce the amount of calories you body retains.

Firstly probably the most important thing to think about when looking for a good carb blocker is to select one which has been proven to work through clinical studies that have been carried out. There are many products readily available both online and through your local health store but only a small number of carb blockers are proven to be effective. An example of a proven carb blocker is the Dietrine phrase 2 carb blocker.

Secondly, look for carb blockers which contain chitosan. This is a dietary fiber which comes from chitin and is found in the outer shells of shellfish and is proven to be effective for weight loss as well as for lowering cholesterol levels. This fiber causes fatty oils to be bonded and not be absorbed into the body through the intestinal walls and so travels the digestive system and can be expelled more easily. In clinical studies carried out, people using chitosan were found to lose 8% of their excess body weight over a 4 week test period.

Another ingredient you should look for in a good quality carb blocker is Gymnema Sylvestre. This is an Indian Ayurvedic herbal medicine which has been used for 2 thousand years for the treatment of diabetes and other problems. But it is only in the last few years it has been seen as a great way of preventing calories from being absorbed into the body and thus stored as fat. In clinical research it is suggested that this herb prevents the absorption as well as the production of glucose molecules through the intestinal tract. Although it is not a cure or a substitute for correct dietary habits it may well be beneficial in helping to regulate blood sugar levels in diabetics.

So it is important that when looking for the best carb blocker available today you should keep in mind the points provided above.

1. Am I a Candidate for Bariatric Surgery?
Bariatric weight-loss surgery is not for everyone. In most cases, bariatric surgeons will only recommend this type of surgery for “morbidly obese” individuals. I know that’s not a pleasant phrase, but it’s one used by the medical community to describe a certain level of weight problem. Morbidly obese means that the person’s obesity is a legitimate threat to his or her health and wellbeing.

Typically, doctors will only start the review process when a person’s body mass index (or BMI) is greater than 40. Body mass index is a measurement that takes into account a person’s gender, height and weight. When a person has a BMI of 40 or greater, doctors will generally proceed with the assessment to determine a patient’s candidacy for bariatric weight-loss surgery.

2. What Type of Surgery?
Another decision you’ll have to make up front is the type of bariatric weight-loss surgery you want to pursue. Over the last few years, there have been many advancements in the field of bariatric surgery. The use of laparoscopic techniques, for instance, provides a minimally invasive alternative to full surgery in some cases. New products have also come onto the scene, such as the LAP-BAND system. So before you proceed with this list of questions, you’ll need to research your surgical options and choose the one that’s best for you.

3. Do I Understand the Effects?
Bariatric surgery has long-term effects, and these effects will differ based on what type of surgery you undergo. For instance, with gastric bypass surgery, your capacity for food consumption will be greatly reduced. That’s the whole point of the surgery, and it’s more or less a permanent effect. With some of the new lap band surgeries, on the other hand, the stomach’s capacity can be altered post-surgery by making adjustments to the band. This type of surgery can even be reversed, in most cases. So before you choose a type of bariatric weight-loss surgery, be sure you know the long-term effects of each one.

4. Do I Know the Risks?
Every type of surgery has risks, and bariatric surgery is no different. The risks will vary depending on which type of weight-loss surgery you pursue (which is why the type of surgery was question #2). Once you decide on a type of bariatric weight-loss surgery, you need to learn about the risks associated with that surgery. Do some research online to find out what type of risks you might face, as well as any percentages / statistics you can located. Only when you understand these risks can you make an informed decision about bariatric weight-loss surgery.

5. Which Doctor Should I Choose?
Once you have (A) determined you are a viable candidate for bariatric surgery, (B) researched the different types of bariatric surgery, and (C) learned about the long-term effects and possible risks, you are ready for the next logical step in the process. You are ready to ask question #5, “Which doctor should I choose?”

In many regards, choosing a bariatric surgeon is like choosing any other surgeon. You want to find a surgeon who is experienced in the field, as well as one who makes you comfortable. Some surgeons are highly skilled but lack a pleasant “bedside manner.” While other surgeons are great with people but less experienced in bariatric surgery. You want to find a surgeon with a combination of these qualities, one who is both highly skilled and easy to talk to.

One of the places you can go to research bariatric surgeons is the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (www.asbs.org). We also offer a variety of resources through the Bariatric Learning Center website, listed below.
